Warhammer 40,000: Darktide Will Send Squads into the Infected Depths of the Hive

Fatshark is preparing a free update for Warhammer 40,000: Darktide titled Depths of the Damned, due to arrive on September 29.

The update centers on a new mission called Spillway and a compact narrative campaign that will take squads deeper into the perilous lower levels of Hive Tertius, into territory controlled by the Water Cartel.

Players who descend into these corrupted waterways and tangled back passages will confront environments filled with enemies and hazards. The mission’s layout is not strictly linear: teams will face branching routes and must choose between paths, some presenting significantly greater danger than others.

A key encounter in the new content will be with the Prophet of Decay, a powerful psyker who has claimed the hive’s depths as his lair and is expected to serve as one of the squad’s principal adversaries.

Depths of the Damned also introduces six new weapon types. The developers specifically mention the Huntsman’s Shotgun and Ogryn Thugshot shotguns, plus the Ogryn Cruncher. In addition, there will be new variants of established armaments — the Crusher Krourk MK VII, the double-barreled shotgun Krouk Mk IV, the combat mace Gromm Mk I, and the Mk V Slab Shield.

Beyond missions and arms, the update will add a new in-game event, refresh the shop rotation, and bring several quality-of-life improvements. Fatshark says it will publish further details about Depths of the Damned in upcoming materials.

The free update arrives on September 29, expanding Darktide’s usual threats with new routes, enemies, and the unique dangers lurking in the hive’s depths.
