Atlus says it will integrate Marie more organically into Persona 4 Revival than she appeared in Persona 4 Golden, the expanded release of the PS Vita title. The Velvet Room resident — who was not part of the original base game, is somewhat reserved, and remains an unpopular figure among some fans — originally felt like a later add-on, and players needed to progress through her story to unlock certain late-game stages even though the game did not make that requirement obvious.
Series producer Kazuhisa Wada told attendees at Gamescom 2026 that the team wants to correct that earlier approach in the upcoming remake. He said the retrospective addition of Marie to Persona 4 Golden required the developers to make her presence very obvious at the time, but that the remake will treat her differently.
“So the way she was introduced was specifically designed to be very, very noticeable, very obvious,” Wada says through a translator. But for Persona 4 Revival, she is a character occupying a central place in the overall story. Therefore, the developers understand that she needs to be here from the very beginning.
