The studio Obsidian Entertainment is cutting roughly 60–70 specialists — about 25% of its workforce. The report, attributed to journalist Rebekah Valentine from Kotaku, broke the news.

Those let go cover a broad swath of roles: producers and artists, designers and programmers, testers and writers — e.g., senior leads and other specialists. LinkedIn posts indicate many were long-serving employees, some with 10+ yrs at Obsidian. The studio also lost the art director of The Outer Worlds.

Most of the positions were eliminated on July 6, and a handful more cuts are expected by year’s end. An insider told Kotaku that remaining staff haven't been briefed on how development will proceed given what one described as an "enormous list" of projects, so immediate plans are unclear.

According to Rebekah Valentine, the survival game Grounded 2 and expansions for The Outer Worlds 2 are still in production, while other projects sit in limbo. Obsidian employees are hoping today's meeting will bring answers.
