New footage has been released online for the A24 horror feature Backrooms. The film riffs on the creepypasta about a liminal space—e.g., an unsettling, seemingly endless maze where people vanish—and leans into that uneasy atmosphere rather than tidy explanations.

At the story’s heart is a man who suddenly learns about this terrifying place; when he becomes trapped there, his psychotherapist shows up to try to help. The setup feels claustrophobic and slow-burning rather than flashy.

Leading the cast are Chiwetel Ejiofor and Renate Reinsve; you’ll also see Mark Duplass, Finn Bennett, Evan Jogia, and Lukita Maxwell in supporting parts.

Behind the camera is Kane Parsons (aka Kane Pixels, The Oldest View), who turned a short he made four years ago—The Backrooms—into the basis for this feature. Parsons co-wrote the screenplay with Roberto Patino and Will Sudik.

A world premiere is set for May 29, 2026. In Russia, the film will be released on June 4, handled by the Volga company.

A full trailer was already released, so impressions and theories are starting to circulate.
