Streamer Kreyg has built a Twitch integration for Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas that lets viewers call CJ’s in-game phone in real time. When a viewer initiates a call, the mod uses the game's original call-answer animation—CJ pulls out his phone—and the viewer's message is converted to speech and played as the caller’s voice while the text appears on screen as subtitles.
Under the hood, the system runs through a plugin-sdk paired with a separate C# program that relays Twitch chat data directly into the game session. That architecture allows events to be handled live without restarting the game.
What began as phone calls quickly expanded. By adding Twitch bits support, Kreyg enabled viewers to appear inside the game as friendly or hostile characters and to trigger classic cheat codes during the stream.
A short timeline: a video demonstrating the call feature circulated on social media on September 2, 2026, and Kreyg added the additional bits-driven functionality the following day. Following the spread of the clip, the streamer received numerous requests to publish the mod for others to use. There is no public release planned at this time because the setup is manual and not user-friendly.
At the moment, it’s not quite plug and play, and it would be pretty cumbersome for people to configure everything and make it work properly.
Kreyg did not rule out releasing the system later, but said doing so would require significant planning and testing.
Given the interest, I would love to make this available to everyone. However, on my end, it will require a lot of planning, testing, and work. For now, I’ll just say that the question of whether and when this will be released remains open!
The developer also intends to create similar integrations for GTA IV and Vice City, both of which include phone call mechanics, but gave no specific timelines for those projects.
