Publisher Koei Tecmo and Team Ninja have announced the first major expansion for their samurai action RPG Nioh 3. The DLC, called Hell Rising, arrives on August 19, 2026, for PS5 and PC.
Takechie is pulled—via dream visions—into a future Edo, where an unknown yokai has led him. The era he finds is no longer peaceful: his future self is dead, and the city is dominated by something called the "Furnace." Fighting enemies driven by a burning hatred of the shogun, Takechie picks up allies along the way, including the famed one-eyed swordsman Yagyu Jubei and a Spanish envoy named Rodrigo.
The headline gameplay feature is the "Illustrated Scrolls of the Realm of a Hundred Demons." Picture customizable challenge-scrolls you can set up and tackle solo or w/ others. Win those unique bouts, and the scroll can become an equipable item that may grant special effects in later fights.
Players will also see new guardian spirits, additional skills and martial arts, an expanded ninjutsu and ommedo-magic pool, and other additions meant to change how you approach combat.
Season Pass holders get Hell Rising automatically, plus an exclusive in-game amulet as a bonus. Team Ninja says a second expansion, Bloody Insurrection, is already in active development.
