Many players have already noticed the impressive graphics of Gears of War: E-Day. The Coalition (Canada) and Playground Games (UK) get called out a lot inside Xbox Game Studios for their eye-catching visuals; they even helped with the Unreal Engine 5 tech demo The Matrix Awakens. The Coalition's previous own release was Gears 5 back in 2019, so they’ve had time to iterate. The game is due October 6, and it follows Breakout Day from the perspective of a young Marcus Fenix — yes, that Marcus.

Then there’s the money talk. Insider Tom Henderson said on the Insider Gaming podcast the budget is “just crazy,” allegedly topping $400 million. That figure, if accurate, applies to development costs only (i.e., marketing spend would be extra). Insider claims are messy; take them with caution. Still, if it’s true, E-Day would sit among the priciest games ever made.

At the Xbox Games Showcase Microsoft confirmed the title is coming solely to PC and Xbox Series X|S. Commercially, a hit could push sales and Game Pass sign-ups — or not. I can’t help wondering whether those huge numbers will pay off, but for now it’s all speculation.
