The upcoming role-playing game Exodus is set to include a distinctive companion system, and studio representatives have shared new information about one of the title’s central allies. Archetype Entertainment — a studio founded by former BioWare staff — discussed the companion mechanics and the character Suliman in an interview with Game Informer; more details are available in that conversation.
Narrative director Drew Karpyshyn describes Suliman as the human face of the Tenzin Dynasty on the planet Lidon, a faction tied to the “Awakened”: highly advanced animals fitted with translator chips. Suliman’s backstory is unusual — he was raised by intelligent crows that intended to use him as a tool.
He nonetheless outmaneuvered that fate and rose to lead the group; the team calls him an unparalleled spy and a master assassin. He is almost always trailed by flocks of birds that serve as scouts.
The development team deliberately crafted Suliman to be arrogant, confident, and sharp-tongued, with an appearance drawing inspiration from K-Pop stars. Game director Chris King said Suliman’s early incarnation was closer to a spoiled wealthy youth whose presence mostly annoyed the player, but the character’s personality was eased during development.
At first, he might seem off-putting. But as relationships develop and you complete missions together, players begin to bond with him. He is narcissistic and arrogant, but when you see him in combat, you understand: his skills fully justify this confidence. — the developers explained.
In battle Suliman focuses on stealth eliminations and high burst damage. His kit includes the “Shadow Step” ability, which renders him invisible, teleports him instantly behind an enemy for a finishing blow, and lets him slip away undetected. The signature move “Vendetta” strikes three targets simultaneously and applies an acid effect; used alongside the main character’s grenades, that acid can spread through a group of foes.
Players will have the option to recruit Suliman or refuse his support as early as next spring. Exodus is scheduled to launch on April 7 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.
