After the release of Steins;Gate Re:Boot was pushed from 2025 to 2026, Mages finally floated a tentative date: August 20. Some of the original's flavor sticks around — 2010 otaku slang, Akihabara vibes — but the reboot layers in new things: redrawn art, an updated UI, fresh music by the original composer Takeshi Abo, a seventh ending, and noticeably more character motion thanks to the E-mote animation tool.
Motion-wise, the 2009 Steins;Gate relied on minimal mouth movement + sprite swaps to imply gesture. That approach had its own, low-key charm; no shame in it. Still, the reboot pushes for much smoother transitions between expressions — you can see subtle blinks, hair sway, micro-changes in the face — almost, some might say, "like VTuber bloggers." For better or worse (i.e., depending on your tolerance for lifelike tweaks), those small details aim to pull you further into scenes.
Characters such as Kurisu and Mayuri feel particularly vivid with the new animation and updated designs. When they talk to each other, the difference becomes obvious — sometimes warmly convincing, sometimes a little too polished compared to the original's rougher intimacy.
