Cooperative hack’n’slash roguelike Tears of Metal launches in early access on July 22

The indie Canadian outfit Paper Cult announced that its kinetic action roguelike Tears of Metal will drop into early access on Steam and the Microsoft Store on July 22. If you want to poke at it sooner, a demo is online until July 6 — about 1,000 reviews and "overwhelmingly positive" (97%).

Playstyle: you are Scottish warriors reclaiming an island from invaders; think tight melee, loot loops, and repeating runs that change things up each attempt. (Short runs, long-term growth — e.g., gear and upgrades carry meaning between tries.)

At early access launch, the title will offer:

  • Full progression system.
  • Three acts with unique enemies, elite foes, and bosses.
  • Three playable heroes.
  • Village upgrades, various emblems, gear, companions, and more.

Development won’t stop there. Upcoming additions listed by the devs include:

  • New playable characters.
  • New family crests.
  • New gear and amulets.
  • New companions.
  • Additional village content.
  • Rebalancing, fixes, and various gameplay improvements based on player feedback.

Tears of Metal will sit in early access for roughly 4 to 12 months (EA time, YMMV). RUS text localization is available.
