Leading combat system specialist at Creative Assembly, Dave Petry, shared new information about Total War: Warhammer 40,000. The studio describes the game as "the beginning of a new era" and has set out to draw in new players without alienating its established, hardcore audience.

Key features of the combat system

  • Detailed fire modeling. Each bullet, cartridge, and laser beam is simulated individually — a design that supports very high rates of fire and aims to convey the scale and feel of large shootouts with greater realism.
  • New tactical mechanics. The team has revised overview and cover systems and added tactical abilities intended to expand the range of strategic choices available to players.
  • Faction individualization. Developers are emphasising distinct traits and combat styles for each faction so that their differences are felt in gameplay.

Unit development and personalization

  • Units can be leveled up, specialised, and equipped with different weapons.
  • Sergeants are customisable, allowing players to tune them to suit individual playstyles.

Training and lore

Training campaigns are designed both to teach the game's mechanics and to introduce players to the Warhammer 40,000 setting — part of Creative Assembly's plan to make the series accessible to newcomers.

Release and support

  • Platforms: PC, PS5, Xbox Series.
  • Localization: text translation into Russian (according to Steam data).
  • Version 1.0 will not be perfect: developers openly acknowledge existing flaws but say they will quickly deliver fixes and add new content. Rather than attempting a "perfect" launch, the studio intends to rely on transparent communication and ongoing support.
