German director Uwe Boll, a name tied to low-budget B-movies, is moving ahead with a zombie picture titled "23 Years Later: The Castle of the Dead" (23 Years Later — The Castle of the Dead). This was reported by Hollywood Reporter.

The project is described as an unofficial follow-up to his 2003 horror "House of the Dead", the film adaptation of the 1997 game House of the Dead.

Plot specifics are being kept under wraps, though the production notes name a castle as the location. Cast returns include Jonathan Cherry and Ona Grauer. Script credits go to Boll and Lutz Geiger. Filming schedule: est. Sept. this year (info: start date still tbd).

If you need a quick refresher, the 2003 picture sent a group of students on a boat to an island rave — only to discover the place was crawling with zombies.

Boll’s announcement also reads like a jab at Paul W. S. Anderson, who is developing his own take on the same property. According to Boll, he believes Anderson’s version will lean heavily on CGI and spectacle; Boll says his plan is the opposite — a raw, gory effort shot without digital effects.
