Back in 2021 the survival game construction simulator Valheim — from Iron Gate and Coffee Stain — blew up on Steam; it felt like everyone was carving out a longhouse overnight.

Early access reached both Xbox consoles a couple years later, and now the devs are finally calling a 1.0 finish line. Version 1.0, which includes the last biome, "The Deep North," is slated for Sep 9, 2026, and the plan is to land on PS5 and Switch 2 as well. Cross-play across platforms? Devs say yes (still on the roadmap).

On Steam the thumbs-up rate sits at 94% positive, yet the live population has thinned: what was once ~500k active Vikings is down to roughly one-tenth. Kind of bittersweet — I miss the busy co-op nights, honestly.
