Michelle Yeoh and Hunter Schafer in the first shots from *Blade Runner 2099*, where replicants have defeated humans

Entertainment Weekly has released the first images and some reporting on the series Blade Runner 2099. Amazon plans to put it on Prime Video in 2026.

Silka Luisa (Shining) is the showrunner, and she worked with Michael Green (who wrote on Blade Runner 2049) and Ridley Scott — yes, the originator of this universe — to figure out how the world looks and how its people move through the story. The new show also reaches back toward Philip K. Dick's Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?

Fifty years after the last film, Los Angeles has been remade; the creators call the tone “sunny noir.” Sometime between 2049 and 2099 a replicant uprising happened — the conflict was real, and humans (hum.) ended up on the losing side. Replicants now run much of the city; humans (hum.) occupy a diminished, second-tier role.

At the center is Olwen, a replicant who works as a blade runner and is played by Michelle Yeoh. She has only a few days left to live and spends them hunting for a band of missing outlaw replicants. Alongside her is Cora (Hunter Schafer, Euphoria), who is a human (hum.) that has spent her life pretending to be one of them.
