A year and a month after 11 bit studios released The Alters — on July 13, 2026 — the expansion "The Last Variable" arrives, bringing roughly 20 hrs (ca. 20h) of new content. New mechanics weave into an underground base you can build; gameplay shifts toward terraforming scarred stretches into oasis-like biomes, even as built-in protections can still upend plans (e.g., quakes, radiation). The remaining Yan Scientist ends up carrying the work alone, juggling GEO, BIO, CHEM, PHY roles — the field alters get no easy breaks, and the primary Yan spends solar cycles in cryosleep. Oddly, it reads less like a neat upgrade and more like a fragile, tense experiment.
