The British firm Arm, working with Sumo Digital, has revealed Neural Dawn — an Android title that’s meant to be more than a flashy test. Built in Unreal Engine 5.6.1, it’s a story-driven game intended to demonstrate what the next-gen Arm Mali mobile GPUs can do when paired with dedicated hw neural accelerators (NN hw, SoC-level).
Developers say they’ve squeezed tech usually reserved for consoles/PC into phone-scale limits. Neural Dawn is reportedly the first mobile title to use Unreal’s MegaLights system, handling hundreds of light sources at once to produce soft shadows and what the team calls true ray tracing without pre-baked lighting. To keep the phone GPU from cooking under load, Arm layers neural-network rendering across the stack (AI/NN offload to dedicated hw, plus SW orchestration) rather than relying on brute-force GPU work.
Expected availability: fall 2026, Android only, on devices running the new Arm chips. How it performs in everyday use — battery drain, thermals, stutter on a commuter train, etc. — is still to be seen.
